    Question Stage 2 with Tiptronic

So I'm planning on going stage 2 on my car and I read online that some automatic transmissions can't handle the power and don't shift quick enough. Has anyone gone stage 2 on a tiptronic car or would I have to change to a manual? Because I'm pretty sure if I found another mkiv that was manual I could just rip out the transmission and shifter..right?

Add a clutch pedal, clutch cylinder, slave cylinder......................

I would re-think that plan. Consider starting over with a different car. You'll really end up spending a lot more than it's worth.

A mkiv auto should be able to handle stg 2 no problem, or am I totally wrong here.

I think it can handle the power in the short run (and maybe the long run), but the performance will not be on par with a manual car. But if you don't have any other options, go for it. I wouldn't attemp a tranny swap, though.

Actually, tranny swap isn't that hard. I did an 02m swap on an auto jetta...

You need a tranny, the associated hardware (i.e. the hydraulic shift lines, the shift tower, the shifter, the pedal set, etc.)

Vwvortex probably has a write up on how to do it. It is fairly simple. But I would HIGHLY recommend getting the proper star bits for the job...

No the trans swap sucks you have to re wire electronics re-route coolant hoses, ground out reverse lights, major pain in the ass, no a tip can't hold the power, yes you're better of getting a dif car and no vortex doesn't have a diy /thread

Rewiring a neutral safety switch... That's hard. Coolant hoses are hard too? Just go buy about 2' of hose from the store and you can make your own coolant hoses. That takes a good 3 hours... Reverse lights are actually already in the system so you simply have to wire them to the sensor on the tranny...

A tranny swap is cheaper than getting another car. But it is possible and not as difficult as it is made out to be. Or maybe the fact I have done a few of these helps me.

I've done it to and it isn't easy by any means, and if you want rev lights to work you have to have parts of the wiring harness from a man.

Thanks for all the input. I might try the tranny swap or get all the pieces and pay someone to do it. Would my car be lighter with a manual tranny? Or not enough for it to matter?

And you guys seem to know everything...

It depends how good you are under the hood, and weight dif is nominal, you'll get more power to the wheels for sure though

Cool Re: Stage 2 with Tiptronic

yea I bought the car Stage 2 chipped and when I first drove it had a slight delay of 1000 rpm. After 4 months every week a gear went and now the car has to be completely warm for second gear to shift 3,4,5 don't shift its like the car is in neutral. It blows but I got an estimate from a guy he would do a tranny swap for $1000, but I don't know if hes gonna do everything. When the switch is done I plan on going stage 3 Uni or Revo like the big turbo options.
