windshield wiper streaking

I just got a brand new 2008 black GTI and I love it, except for one little annoying problem. The driver side windshield wiper streaks. More specifically it "bridges" or does not make complete contact with the glass. It leaves about a 3" swath that just happens to be in my line of sight. It's actually dangerous because it creates a big blind spot right in front of me. Now it gets weird. I took it in to the dealer and they replaced it with out any questions but the new one does the exact same thing. These are Bosch blades and ironically enough Bosch blades are the only ones that worked well on my old car. Any help?

Mine did the same thing for the first few times it rained I wiped them with an alcohol pad and they worked the 2nd or 3rd time after that without streaks

I'll try that but I don't know if that will help a blade that's not quite hitting the glass. Thanks

The two times that kind of thing happens to me is when there's a small object under the wiper, or the wiper is dirty from wiping dirty salty snow or dirty water...I usually just wipe them off with something..

Wipe 'em with alcohol like mentioned above. If that doesn't work, are you sure that the arms are angled properly? Could be bent a bit? Or try another set of different brand blades. my .02.

Not from what I have read.....

When wiper blades are manufactured, it is years before they are ever sold to the public. They sit in warehouses and the rubber will deteriorate over time even in the package not on your vehicle. Most wiper blades will come with an optimizer. Pretty much what this is, is a rubbing alcohol based solution on a little wet wipe. Rub that on your new wiper blade, just on the blade portion, and that will re-vitalize the blade surface, making it nice and soft so it grips your windshield and cleans it properly.

I thought about experimenting with another brand but the wiper arm is unique. None of the common attachment types will fit the 08 GTI.

okay have fun using cracked wiper blades, the alcohol makes rubber brittle, which over time tends to crack. I dont now what your reading but that was retarded

It removes oil, grime and diesel soot from the blades

I got that pic of you off myspace, and the reason why you bought hundreds of wiper blades is beacuse you used alcohol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your right it will remove oil, grime and diesel soot. It will also crack the f ing rubber over time, thats my argument kid.

Did anyone ever solve this issue? I have another appointment to bring my R32 in for the exact same problem. This will be my 3rd trip to the dealer. My car is a whopping month and a half old and I've had the wiper arm replaced and I'm on my 3rd set of factory blades.

Just in case anyone is following this thread, VW had my car for 4 days and ended up replacing the windshield. Problem solved.

Hmm i just got my car monday with 23 miles on it, now has 550 on it zero windshielf wiper problems. Well good luck with that.

i had the EXACT same problem... it's like a 5 inch thick block of streaking right in my line of site... very obviously a manufacturers defect.... i think i will buy the rain x....

i just bought a pair of rain-x wiper blades after reading this forum... everyone seemed to have good things to say about them... but how the hell do i install them.... the install options given on the rain-x box don't seem to apply to the mkv since that had this little button that i pressed doen to slide them off.... any help
