Thread: BCM (Body Control Module) / CECM Swap

Default BCM (Body Control Module) / CECM Swap

So basically I have a blown BCM (body control module) which I believe is also referred to as the CECM (Central Electronics Control Module).

I am looking to get a new one whatever the source may be. The dealer wants like $400, AliExpress is $150 (http://www.aliexpress.com/store/prod...512357163.html), and I can assume finding one in a junk/salvage yard would be cheapest (but don't know any yards with MKVIs at the moment. If anyone is northern NJ and knows a junkyard with MKVIs currently, please let me know!

So 1 question is where to get it cheapest.

Second question: My part # is 1K0 937 087 G. For example, the part # on the AliExpress link is 1K0 937 087 Q. What will getting a different revision letter change for me. Will it make swapping it in a problem?

Third: To swap the module, does anyone have a procedure I should follow. I assume the new one will need programming via VAGCOM and potential problems could arise if I don't program it correctly. What's the safest way to do this swap? Disconnect battery at all? Program with key on but engine off? Anything on the installation/programming would help.

    Thanks all.

    bump

Could really use some help on this issue. My initial problem with the BCM diagnosis was that the left turn signal stayed on constantly. I believe the BCM has deteriorated more because I have lights not functioning all over the car now. Right headlight doesn't really come on at all. I get warnings about reverse lights and other locations. I have 9 light warnings on the MFI.

Most importantly I need to get a BCM module. Anyone think the one on AliExpress is a good swap?

Usually revisions mean different models, though vcds can usually program for that. You're taking a risk not getting the exact part number, repercussions are unknown though.

As for programming, it's pretty straight forward. You want to do the swap with the battery disconnected, once everything is plugged in then you can turn the key on. Boot up vcds, program the module and then test everything before you put the car back together.

ok - so when you say 'key on' you mean the 'on' position where the radio comes on but not the engine, correct?

This is the original coding for my Central Electronics. Would the coding string be the only thing I need to 'program' through VCDS after the swap, or does changing the BCM effect coding in other modules within the car?

Key on, car not running correct.

The coding string you will want to write down or copy and paste from one module to the next, makes the process MUCH easier.

The great thing about VW is that each control module only controls the things pertaining to that module. With the exception of the immobilizer, which correlates to the ecu and cluster.

I've been looking for part # 1K0 937 087 and have come across this (click) module. The title of the listing is 1K0 but the label on the unit in the picture is 5K0.

The description says it is for the type of headlights I want to put in as well as that it is 315MHz for the remote. Does this one seem right for a 2010 GTI MK6?

Also, is there any way - through part # or something on the label - that deciphers whether it is 315MHz or 433MHz. Just want to make sure i get the right one! Thanks.
