Need help please..control arm bushings and idle problem

so recently my car has been making this odd dragging cluttering noise when i accelerate in 1st gear ..feels like something is loose not sure..but i happen to check the control arm bushing and those are horrible..need help on how to change em..and also my car has also had this weird idle problem..ill turn it on and idles firmly at about 8 or 9 rpm then drops to about 5rpm and goes back and forth..i was thinking its time for new spark plugs and coils but then yet again people have told me it could be an oxygen sensor or massflow something sensor from the intake..any help would be appreciated..thanks

Please tell me you have a check engine light on.
Miles on your car?
Check the mid-car exhaust hanger. Commonly rusts loose and rattles.
Control arm bushings DIY all over the web. Search "VW Mk4 Control Arm Bushing DIY"
The idle is why I asked for Check Engine Light. It's probably a sensor of some kind. Please be specific about where it's idling. You mean 800-900 RMPs on the left side of the Tachometer or 8000-9000 RPMs which will blow your engine on the right side of the Tachometer.

had a check engine light a while back but it went away..it said something about car running rich and or something about mass flow sensor..not sure have to run the computer scanner again..

and hmmm now that you mention a rattle ..it could be exactly that..
and yes on the left side 800-900 rpms

I would first check under your intake manifold for vac and boost leaks. REPLACE your Cam Position Sensor. They're fairly cheap and easy to replace(2 bolts). If no vac or boost leaks, replace the MAF sensor and 1st O2 sensor. This will be a bit more pricey but with the miles on your car it's probably a good idea at this point.

well i managed to replace the MAF and oxygen sensor and no more drop in rpms ..thank you all (:
