Thread: Spark plugs caked in what seems to be oil.

Default Spark plugs caked in what seems to be oil.

So I did a tune up today. Replaced spark plugs and coils with all OEM parts. I noticed the spark plugs I was removing was caked in what seemed to be oil. But when I smelt the oil it smelt nothing like motor oil. Any ideas? I have a VTA catch can by BSH installed. Maybe some blow by is finding its way back into the valve cover via the valve cover ventilation hose connected to my catch can. Here is a picture of a spark plug.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help but I thought that was funny. I've seen oil like when a PCV backs up where oil comes out of the filler neck and dribbles down the coil packs into the plugs. How long ago did you install the cc?

Inspect the insides of your plug holes. If there is oil looking residue on the walls leading down to the plugs, or if your socket comes out kind of gooey, you need a valve cover gasket. $20 45 minutes to install. Easy as pie.
