    Default General mod opinions wanted

Hi everyone. I love this site. I've had a 2012 GTI for about 2 weeks and from the get go I assumed I was getting Neuspeed P-Flo and APR Stage one. Now I'm debating those mods. I still have that new feeling with it where the power is in every gear and it handles so well. I have to figure out how fast those upgrades would make my car and decide then. I love the stock engine sound. I don't want it to sound like this really low Civics that I see everywhere with teh big noisy exhausts. They sound cheap. I like the stock GTI grumble.

There's a good place to start looking. Then you can read through build threads to get some more ideas. Like this one, which is a pretty lengthy one with an MkVI:

APR stage one isnt a bad idea but to be honest i would save the money from the intake and get some kind of exhaust system. if you can afford a turbo back system that would obviously be the best but you may also consider a cat back. On my MKIV i just chopped the muffler and center resonator (which is pretty dirty I know) and now it dumps under the center of the car but it actually sound pretty good and more importantly it immediately seemed to free up high end torque and horsepower... its noticeably quicker from me just chopping pipe off and ive heard of people having great success with exhausts on GTIs. if i could afford it, a turbo back exhaust would be my first mod even before the APR chip

FYI...I changed my initial post to make a little more sense as to what I was asking.

if you want the cheapest power, get a downpipe and stage 2 tune. This is tried, tested, and true the quickest and cheapest upgrade combo. If you don't want much of a sound change, get a downpipe with a resonator and cat. But overall I don't mind my non-resonated 42DD 3" downpipe with high flow cat. It's still quiet when cruising but is louder when I punch it.

Donwpipes can be as cheap at $200 (less than a p-flo) or up to $500+

Then save up for a intake and catch can.

This. A catted, resonated dp and stage 2. The pflo is very quiet on the mkvi, which sounds like a good option for you, but you won't notice any power gains so I would put that money towards a dp instead.

Thanks everyone! I had my plan in mind after reading that huge thread someone posted on his suggestions for what mods to do and when. It was intake first, ECU tune, etc, etc. Obviously that's not universally agreed on.

I'm not a big fan of some of the"advice"in that thread. Some of the info is good, but a lot of that stuff is subjective and seems to be biased to the op's opinion. And I don't know why it says intake is one of the first things you want to do. It's not even a requirement for stage two. I think the dp is more beneficial.

    Stage 2
    Down pipe

Then you'll see the big turbo ones that are out there.....

In all honesty, I had to have an intake just because of the sound so I can understand why some people would want it sooner than later.

I wanted an intake asap too, but I think saying it's one of the first things you SHOULD do is a bit misleading.

Yeah, it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. But I get it. DD'ing a car that sounds badass inside the cabin may be important to some...Myself included. Haha
