Thread: need some advice!!!

    Exclamation need some advice!!!

for as much as i love my little gti im debating on getting rid of it. i owe approximately 10,000 on it and i have 110,000 miles on it. by the time i pay it off in 3 years, ill have 170,000 miles on it and i dont wanna risk anything. apparently vw wants my car and is willing to pay 120% of what its worth now and get me in a new vdub. (now i dont know how credible this offer is but for now lets just say its legit) its a vehicle exchange program. i probably wouldnt get a new gti because i dont have the money for it. im looking at the jetta se, jetta tdi, or jetta gli. tdi would be nice because i drive about 70 miles a day just for work. se would be nice because its cheaper and probably would reduce my speeding ticket count haha. gli would be nice so i would still have a good performance vehicle. anyone on here own or owned a new jetta? just some opinions on the topic would be cool. im going in thursday just to see what they can do for me but im not going in looking to get a new car. thanks guys!

Well first off, the Jetta GLI is the same thing as the GTI just a LITTLE bit cheaper haha and second if you drive it nicely it will last you for a very long time i am about to turn 160k and my MKIV is still running perfectly.. I guess it all boils down to the seriousness of the VW dealership about that 120% deal... Ive driven the Jetta with the 2.5 i5 in it and its actually got some spunk to it and you gotta love the sound of the 2.5... Really any of those cars are great but the only thing is that you have to remember that the TDI requires some knowledge of the little quirks of how to take good care of a diesel engine. With a 2.5 Golf or Jetta with the manual trans you will still get insane mileage, a really well built, well engineered car, and a car that you will still enjoy driving. The TDI is a bit of a dog to be honest... xD Going from a GTI to a TDI would be a real downer for me for sure. If youve got any more questions about the Jettas just let me know I will answer them to the best of my ability! I've driven every powertrain option for the new Jettas including the GLI so I can give you a pretty good idea of what youll be getting.

well im a deisel mechanic so i know how to take care of them. and we have a diesel fill up tank at work that i could probably fill up with for cheap. should i steer clear of the 2.0 jetta with no turbo? ive driven the tdi and its great down low i thought, it just died up top. i wonder if a tune would make it more driveable and fun. i would probably get a manual because thats all ive ever driven and they are cheaper and have less problems. and ive never driven a 5 cylinder vdub.

they have a left over gli for 21,000. and a tdi for 22,000 and a se for 21,000. tdi and se are 2013 and gli is a 2012

well the 2.0 NA motor is even SLOWER than the TDI but it gets absolutely ridiculous mileage. If you are a diesel mechanic then you would for sure be fine with a TDI and I am sure that there are alot of tuning options for it but I am no mechanic and certainly don't have a super tuned car right now lol. But if I were going for straight up gas mileage I would for sure take the 2.0 NA or the TDI but I really do recommend testing out the 2.5 engine I was really surprised with its kick and like I said I really enjoy the noise it made even on stock exhaust.

Can't believe this is happening...Haha. It's tough to debate going from the top of a car manufacturer's one spectrum to many steps lower. I'm not saying the GTI is the top of the line for VW, but I don't include the CC, the Passat, or any of the SUV's in the same arena as the GTI, Bettle, or Jetta just because you're looking for different things when you buy those sedans and SUV's. If I were to leave my GTI, even when it was stock, and try to drive a Jetta or Beetle, I would constantly be reminded of what my old car did better.

A few options: The dealer is probably not going to give you 120% of blue book value, but 120% of whatever book they want to use value. As a general rule, you'll get more through private sale. So try selling it, paying off the loan, then taking the remainder as a down payment on a new _________. Or, continue to drive the car, change the oil when appropriate, change the cam follower every 10k miles, and enjoy. When it's paid off you'll have some more financial freedom to choose another car of your liking. Who knows what 2018 cars are going to be anyway?

The only other car I ever seem to be drawn to outside of GTI's (eliminating super cars of course) is the new Volvo S60 with the high end engine.

I have driving the 2006 2.5 Jetta(Family's car). I actually learned stick in it (Yes I am younger). Having said that. It was a fun little car to drive. I loved the look of the Mk5 Jetta's. Smooth shifting all around and quick for no turbo. But After owning my GTI for a wile, I have to say, I would stick with the GTI. So much more fun to drive. I love the look and the functionality of the hatch much more. If VW is staying true to the 120%. Go for the Mk6 GTI. Just my thoughts.

well i pulled the trigger and traded in the gti and i must say i am extremely happy with what i got. 2013 jetta tdi. for everyone who thinks the interior isnt as nice as the gti's... there are a few things that dont match up but its still top notch. im at 340 miles on the tank from the dealer and i still have half a tank! its not nearly as fast as my gti was but its not gutless. it still gets up to speed respectively. for the mileage it gets its pretty quick. and i do love the look of it. overall i think its a great car and isnt that much of a downgrade from the base model gti. and im averaging 47 mpg =] the one thing i think they could have done a better job on is the wheels. that will probably be the first thing i change.

Hmmm...So you made a post in a GTI forum asking whether or not you should change your car to a Jetta TDI, we all said we wouldn't do it, then you do it. Why did you come to this forum to ask that question? Why would you get mad at me for saying I wish your GTI went to a better home? Why would you even continue to post in a forum when you don't own the car the forum is about? What makes you think we buy GTI's because we think they will last? I didn't call you names, I honestly answered your question.

Don't answer any of these questions because I don't care. I just think you should think things through in the future.

Took the words right outta my mouth.
Everyone in this forum is a GTI owner. Or at least has owned one and loved it. What answer would have you expected?
