    Default Cruise Control Stopped Working

I searched around and didn't find the information I need, but yesterday I was trying to use my cruise control and it wasn't working. I have APR chip, and checked out fuses to see if one of those blew and didn't find one, so now I am coming to you guys for assistance. Any help?

Thanks for the help with this

I would think that the cruze control stock is bad. Might have to take it off and get a new one.

If the stalk is bad I wonder if I can still switch my APR from different programs? I am not too concerned with Cruise Control but I would still want the availability to switch programs with my APR

Well, wouldn't you know by the flashes on the dash? Not sure if its diff with the mkiv, but if you can't cycle through the flashes, then it's not working.

I remember how mine is set up. 1 flash per second is stock, 2 is 91 octane , 3 is 93 octane and 4 is 100 octane, I just haven't tried it out

Hoping to revive as I've been searching for a solution to my own cruise control problem...I've been reading around and I've seen everything from spraying contact cleaner into the stalk to replacing the stalk to every VW dealer stating that, whatever it is, it will cost $500 to fix.

Has this intermittent, then permanent, problem been fixed by anyone here?

You could snag a used or new stalk and get it a whirl. If you has vcds you could actually read readiness and see what's going on with it. That may be your next step.

If you can get a used stalk for cheap it may be worth a shot.

Could also be your Brake switch. Check your brake lights, see if they are constant on. If they are, you can be yourself the switch failed while tripped on. Your second thing that could be happening is your clutch switch. Find a friend with a GTI/JETTA, There are two Clutch switches. Change out one by one and see if any of them fixes the issue then replace the switch. One of the switches gone bad will also allow you to start your car without pressing in the clutch, try to start your car without pressing in the clutch, if it starts its DEFINITELY a clutch switch. If it does now, proceed with what I said before. Checking the brake lights and the switches.

    Good Luck

Thanks for the feedback guys. I don't think the brake lights are constant on but I'll double check. I'm DSG so it's not a clutch switch. The car is tucked away at a friend's house for now bc of the snow but when it melts, hopefully sooner rather than later, I'll do some more digging and update.

As an update to this, I tried cleaning the contacts inside the stalk with contact cleaner. No luck. I'm really baffled here...

Yeah. They're separate switches inside the stalk. I just looked at block 066 and, sure enough, the little binary zero there doesn't turn into a one when I flip the switch. I'm gonna order (eventually) a cc switch or stalk. I'll update when I install the new switch. I'm posting on a few websites with WTB threads to see if somebody has one before I ebay ebuy this thing.

I'd check to see if there is a relay in the system and go for that first, easier to change a relay than the stalk.

The only reason I think the wiring is good is bc the scan did not show a fault. I'm also not planning on replacing the whole stalk. You can pop just the cc switch mechanism out of the stalk and put a new one in. Thoughts?

Wouldn't the scan see that? Like when the brake switch is broken and not communicating the scan shows a fault.

Just saying, vcds is a starting point. It's not THAT specific. It won't tell you the part that has failed or the cause. Nomtalkinbout?

I hear ya. But if I can pull out the one switch on a $60 part, try it and see if it works, there's only two outcomes. It works and everything is hunkey dorey. It doesn't work, the repair is more involved, and I can potentially re-sell the part for $60.

No idea...Where would I begin to look? A quick Google search hasn't produced anything and I don't know what the relay looks like. Electricity, to me, works like magic. So when something goes wrong, I have little to go on.

Werd. He's unknowingly assisted me in every electrical/lighting issue I've had so far. Is there a Batman light I can light up or something to call him?
