Default How would this handle around the cones?

Im fairly big into autocross. I am piecing together a list of parts I want to get when I pull the trigger on a 1.8t. I would go coil overs but I just dont see the need for em on this specific car, so I am looking at all this stuff.

I wasnt sure about the sway bars because I dont know the stock mm sizes, and iv never really pushed a 1.8T hard to know whether it needs oversteer/understeer adjustment. So the sway bar is there as a filer for a kit I will eventually snag. So is this corner carver worthy?

Yeah, you only really need those if you're dumped on coils. The cup kit and sway bars will definitely help things. The rear moreso than the front - are those sway bars adjustable? I'd set the rear all the way firm and the front all the way soft. You might be able to get away with only getting a RSB - that will bias it a little more towards oversteer, but that may not be so bad. I've debated removing my FSB altogether

If you're looking for big power and trying to put it down, I'd recommend an LSD.

Im woried about understeer more than anything. Oversteer you can control easily with the gas(in most cases) but understeer is just a biyatch lol.

this is the set-up i got

http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/p...oducts_id=3194

i already had H&R race springs so all i need was a good set of struts. Koni's FSD are great.

but if i would do it all over again i would go with coils. FK coils would have cost about the same as my Koni FSD and would have increase handling some more.

my mk3 with just coils handle just as good as my mk4 with all the upgrades.

many be when you get your mk4 ill sell u my kit lol so i can get some coils

That kit's not used... its new. The "used" aspect of it would be if you had already bought a good set of lowering springs, and you wanted to upgrade your shocks and sway bars. Then you'd buy this kit. Like Volcano said, he already had a set of H&R race springs, so he bought this kit to complete the setup.

Rear sway bar is a MUST! I cannot tell you how many times my back end slid out on the track in my 1.8T. I have a fairly good amount of seat time. Springs are great, but if you're going to have a 2" drop, you will need the nuespeed front sway bar or you WILL rub your axle.

And for the price of that cup kit buy these instead:

http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-...vers/ES250775/

Drop it at the track, bring it back up on the way out. They even make a cheaper set that drops up to 2", which you wouldn't have to raise... Plus they handle extremely well.

Thats pretty cheap for a coil over kit.. hows the quality on that stuff? Im not about cheaping out on parts so im not very budget minded for cars. I just save up for whatever part I need.. no cutting corners here! lol.

FKs aren't bad - but if you really want the best in handling I wouldn't go with FKs. Not sure what the best kits are for MkIVs, but I'd bet it'll end up being in the $2k range. Bilstein PSS10s are pretty good. No matter what setup you get, make sure the struts are dampening adjustable.

Yea I was looking at the bilstein kit. But again, I dont think i need coilovers for this car.

I havnt seen any adjustable kits for the vdubs, do you have any links?

Bilstein PSS9s are 9-way dampening adjustable, PSS10s are 10-way .

http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-...Overs/ES10609/

There's FKs with 6 levels of dampening adjustability.

It's a good bit of loot to drop when a cup kit will offer just as much of a handling advantage. You might want to try shocks with dampening adjustability and a set of springs, like these:

http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-...ocks/ES261018/

Koni Yellows are considered by many to be one of the best struts you can get, and offer the adjustable dampening. Combine them with a nice set of springs (H&R Race are nice) and you'll have your own cup kit.

Lol no problem. Be sure to check pricing against mjmautohaus and take shipping costs into account too - might save you enough money for a case or two of beer while you install.

yea mjmautohaus usually gives you free shipping and has slightly lower prices then ECStuning

mjm also has suspension packages. or if you have any specific things you looking for as a package they will make you a package and will discount some more.

the kit i got was not there until i ordered it. they made that kit for me lol and i save like $50 when i asked them to make all the parts i wanted into a kit.

h&r springs are for comfort. They are designed to have higher spring rates so there is less of a bounce to them. Nuespeed makes a good quality stiff spring. So do plenty of companies. Fk's are simply in a league of their own. Unlike Racelands, you can actually track Fk's repeatedly and not have issues...

Koni yellows are nice. But KYB AGX's are FAR more better in terms of adjustability. I know this because every rx7 I have ever tracked, whether it was autocross or sliding, has had a set. They never let me down... A bit on the pricey side but I do believe they are cheaper than Koni yellows. Just some FYI.

Just did a quick search on the AGX's and they are cheaper when you buy them directly from KYB than buying Koni yellows... From anyone.
