I let my car idle for about 45-60 minutes. it close to overheating so i turned it off and turned it back on, it started then sputtered and died. I waited til it reached 190 degrees F and it started back up. This has happened once before. And am not sure what seems to be the problem. the last time it completely overheated and the car shut itself off.

Out of curiosity, why would you let your car idle for up to an hour? Eventually the motor heats up to the point where it needs air flow over the radiator, even if everything else is functioning properly. Just my 2 cents.
I would make sure your fans are coming on. |

the heat works like normal.
would it be safe for the car if i started it and ha dit sit at idle agian to check the fans and such? Also is there anything else i should be checking ![]() As for reasoning behind the prolonged idle... my car was cold and i had a couple of long phone that took place is all... ![]() |

turn the car on, drive it short distance let it warm to normal operating temp. open the hood and look in front of the engine at the 2 big plastic fans between the engine and the radiator. watch them for 5 minutes ( after car is warmed all the way up) If they don't start spinning you might have a blown fan relay. It has been an issue on these cars before.

oh and DON'T let your car overheat to the point it shuts itself off............... if the temp gauge goes past the middle mark SHUT IT DOWN. I would hate to see you on here asking how to replace a warped head.

vw "fixed" problem- said it was the high pressure fuel pump control module?? Not sure if that would cause the problem.
there were fault codes saying the fuel pressure was low. |
