I would get a chip. Revo, APR, Unitronic, GIAC..I like APR, but those are all great brands, and it is the best bang for the buck kind of deal.

Or an intake, exhaust if you don't want to spend much money. P-flo neuspeed or something will work

i dont know much about chipping cars, what does it do, and does it affect the integrity of the warranty or the reliability of the car?
as for exhaust and cold air intake (those were the first two for me to think of) which will give me the biggest hp increase? |

chip will give you the most bang for your buck. A chip just changes the computer settings to give you better performance (fuel, timing, boost, ...) all on a stock car. The companies that "imerGTI08" named are all safe. It is all safe as long as you dont act like a dumb a$$ and over rev your engine and stuff like that since the rev limiter is removed also the speed limiter is gone. APR has been the one out the longest i think and can be trusted. APR also has a trail version so you can see what you goin to buy for a few hours and then it changes back to stock.
I think 1. Intake 2. Exhaust 3. Chip 4. Better DV or BOV (it is only a matter of time after getting a chip that you DV will fail so it is a most to chang with a better 1 or get a BOV) |

A chip is the best $-hp ratio. $500-600 for a chip upgrade though, but its anywhere from 30-45hp increase. Just learn where your local APR, GIAC, REVO dealer is and its like ten minutes for them to plug it in. There are TONS of brands to choose from, AEM, Neuspeed, Evoms, APR, im not even gonna list there are too many, just look at member signatures below their posts and youll get a feel for brands being used on a lot of member rides. Be sure to search the New Member posts because there are tons of "what should I do first" posts, tons of great info. And welcome to MFG! |

intake many ppl like the P-Flow from Neuspeed. I have a CAI from AEM. Some ppl dont like the full CAI cuz it may suck up water when it rains but i have not had any problems with mine. It is about 6" or 7" high of the ground on my car and im lowered with H&R springs. i think its not a problem unless you sit real low on coils but i could be wrong. Some ppl think that an intake is an intake. metal tube and a fliter. so they dont mind a ebay intake which is much cheaper then any name brand one. so its really up to you.
when it comes to exhast my fav are GHL or 42DD you just missed the holiday sale but SMS LLC can help you with 42DD. there is also AWE Tuning, Neuspeed (which i have). there are many just do a lil research. there are many threads about intake and exhaust are here. some ppl here have a just a custom 3" cat back with ebay downpipe. check youtube for more sound clips |

im digging the ghl, so as of right now my top 3 upgrades are
1.exhaust 2. CAI 3. chip it. now my question is, when chipping a gti, are there other upgrades you need to get to keep the car reliable, not overwhlem any of the stock components? id just like to thank you guys you've really helped alot. |

yea GHL sounds great and it f-ing loud it also come in 3". the diff between the 2.5" and 3" is where the extra power is located in the RPMs
i believe its just the DV that always fails when you get a chip. the stock DV can not handle the extra boost. I would also look at some point getting a N75 valve. it will not fail but it will give you a lil more boost and better throttle response and its not too expensive. you maybe able to find 1 on ebay or vwvortex.com classified for like 50 bucks |

no problem we here to help
im not sure but i think the 2.5" has more power in the mid range while the 3" has the power in the higher rpm range, but im not sure someone else might be able to confirm better. also our cars come with lots of tq in the lower-mid RPM range so many ppl go 3" for a lil more on top (if im correct).

Hey Jeremy... Great choice in the GTI to start tuning... You are gonna learn alot by going onto the forums and reading before you make a decision. I personally dont have a GTI but I do have a Jetta wagen with a 1.8T... I personally run a ABD cold Air Intake system because they have the most recorded gains @11.9hp on a VR6 done by Eurotuner magazine 3 or 4 years ago. It may be on the pricey side but its worth every penny. You dont have to worry about sucking in water as long as you dont go fording down a river. I also prefer the 42 Draft Designs exhaust. with a Chip and CAI they have seen gain of upto 22hp. I do also sell these products and stand behind them or I wouldnt sell them. I can work you a deal when the time comes.
