You can use 93 or 91 no less than that, this engines are "high compression" 10.5:1. If you look in gas door you will see a lable with the fuels that you can used in your vehicle.

yeah use 93, a drop in octane equates to less additives which help clean away buildup on injectors etc. also lower octane can mean a drop in power to the tune of 5 hp and in some cases up to 12 horses.

No. You should be fine after a few tanks of gas.

The effects could be permanent, but if you didnt throw a code for detonation chances are you are A-OK.

I am also a new VR6 owner and have read to use the higher octane gas, but i was wondering if its possible to run 116 race gas with no ill effects. maybe not a full tank but say....5 gallons of the 14.5 gallon tank 116 and the rest 93

because it is very good at cleaning out carbon build up, it does give you better performance, and it smells fantastic. if you have ever been to the drag strip and you'll know what i mean! i ran it in my civic.

there is 0 point in running a higher octane fuel than your car wants that's been discussed on here 100000 times running c-16 in a low 15 sec car is a huge waste of money, as for getting a good smell buy a TDi convert it to Bio-diesel go to McDonalds and clean out their grease traps

I noticed a difference in my civic...and the smell is not the same. I have been a drag racing all my life and the smell of race fuel is unique! I had a 66 tempest running a 10 sec 1/4 at 137mph with a small block 350. it can screw up cats but i wasnt running one on the civic or the tempest.

The stock program will run a specified timing based on engine speed/load etc. They programmed it to be on the safe side for running 93 octane, hell It's probably tuned to run on 87 therefore it is on the safe side to run 91 or 93 It will NOT go past this timing limit on stock program, so you could run methanol or E-85 and without a tune you would actually lose power. The only way to gain performance from octane is to increase the timing to compensate for the longer burn.
