I *cough* discovered...
if you shift from D to R (or P to R or D) without pressing the brake... the car won't shift and the dash just blinks until you brake hard, shift N, then back to R or D. It is possible to do - built in a safety for those of us who figure it out. Different blink though.. just one letter blinks ("hey dummy - I'm not in the gear you think I am"). P to R without Brake? press brake, press shift button, apply back pressure to hold the shift-safety-interlock open, let off brake. Car is still mechanically in P. Your foot isn't on the brake - but you can pull it out of park. I did it once going from R to N back to R by mistake once. Anything that gets you through the "bump" without pressing the brake will activate this. I had it in neutral once and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't go. Silly me. I guess they want to keep us from driving through the garage wall when we're half asleep. You can also do it at a slow rolling speed.. start in N.. parking brake on, foot off brake.. let parking brake off - and let it roll just fast enough to get the "press brake" light to shut off... press the shift button, then let the car coast/slow down below the safe speed again (I think the green light comes on)... then shift into R or D. The D or R blinks depending upon which gear you tried to move into. I can do this when backing out of the driveway and some parking lots. The driveway is down a slight hill, but I turn the wheel into the street which is slightly uphill in the reverse direction. I'm only going like 1 mph. Hey - I try these things out!! ![]() Kids - don't try this at home. Cooked transmission don't taste better with butter.
