Default Canadians running stock shocks with other springs

Any Canadians here with stock shocks and some other springs? What did you get, how much lower is the GTI and how are the shocks holding up?

no more then 1" and the stockers will be ok. no point to this, save up some more and get a good set up. trust me, it is worth it.

Truth. Get a nice set of springs and dampers and drop it to the ground haha . But the further you drop...the harder the bumps.

Yeah wish I had eibachs...I was convinced by the guys at oettingers and there Oettinger mkIV sponsor ride. My fast looks great....nice and low but I get nasty front wheel well vibrations on rough turns... and I just havent had a chance to update.

To be clear, the ride height on Canadian GTI's are still higher than in the US. I'm considering putting on the Euro spec OEM springs to get the height down (and avoid warranty problems), but have seen conflicting reports on the sanity of this idea.

I put Tein S-Tech Lowering Springs on my car. It was a 1.5" drop. It rides nice, just like stock but better in the turns etc.. When I have some money laying around I hope to get coilovers and set it to 2" but i don't go to the track enough for that yet. Depends on what ur after. If you don't plan on going to the track and u just want a little better stance and stuff get the 1.5" drop like mine. It's just like stock ride just a little bouncier and rougher.

See thats where I have my problem...with my coilovers taking me to 2.5" and 2" it gets rough. But it looks so sick that I think its soo worth it. My passengers dont always think so but I dont care what they think. In fact if I got rid of my passenger seat all together maybe I wont have to hear them whine.

I have pretty much convinced myself to go with the Euro Spec springs and bump stops. There is some good information on the Vortex site, but I too have not found any 08 CDN GTI examples with those springs. I want to make sure that it will sit the same as the European model, regardless of the springs and bumpstops in there right now.

I disagree that it is a waste of money, if you are looking to correct the stance of the car while maintaining the warranty it seems like a good way to go to me. The drop in the front is 1.5" and .5" in the rear.

If there are any 08 CDN GTI's with the Euro springs please post a pic. Here is an example from Vortex:

I just picked up my lowering kit from VW. The box says Eibach Pro Kit, but I was told by the dealer that the specs are actually different from the Eibach's you can get on-line. Anyway, the kit came with bump stops as well. I have waited a long time for these, and guess I will wait until I put my huffs back on in early spring (pun intended).

Unlike the majority of people who posted, I am Canadian and running H&R super sports with stock shocks on my 08 mkv

I don't have exact numbers, but I'm about 1.8-2" lower, basically there is no wheel gap.

The ride is stiffer and you feel more bumps, but otherwise the stock shocks are fine. You won't really damage them unless you're constantly bottoming out the shock.

With that being said, upgrading to some Koni FSD, etc. with make the ride a little more smooth as they are optimized better for a lower spring set up.

...And compared to $200 I paid for springs, and the $1200-1500 I would pay to get some nice coilovers, they were definitely worth the buy in the meanwhile, until I upgrade to coilovers.
