Exclamation another cel, possible bad coil pack?

so the other day i was driving down the highway, had my fast in D. i go to accelerate and hit on the gas, my turbo spools up to almost 20psi then all of a sudden cuts out, drops to around 17psi and the whole cycle keeps repeating, the car surges somwhat, feels as if you were peeling out kinda. the first time this happened my cel just blinked while this was going on, so i backed off the gas and the car went back to normal. so i decided to test it again. bring her up to high boost again, and sure enough, same thing happens. this time the check engine light stayed on. from this test i figured out that this only happens under high boost, no symptoms are present until i hit about 19-20psi. the car still drives normal. so i plugged in my vag-com and got two codes, one for myltiple cylinder misfire and the other for cylinder #2 misfire. i have come to understand that the coil packs on our cars are known to be faulty and that this is one of their symptoms. i have recently swapped out my spark plugs for autolite double platinum plugs, so i dont think its them. any input is greatly apreciated.

def coilpak. ur looking at between $30-40bucks each to replace
them

i had the exact same issue. dont push it too much, w. a misfire fuel is still being pushed into the cylinder its just not being burned.

best thing to do after u replace the coilpak buy a can of bg 44k run it through ur system

the techs at my local dealer are incompetent, to say the least. i am highly disappointed in their attitude towards me and the inability to fix a simple thing like a bad pcv, then have the nerve to tell me that something totally different is causing the problem. im gonna take care of this on my own without those idiots touching my fast. im gonna order me a full set of coil packs from ecstuning, they are the new D revision, so hopefully they should last better then these have. my car is only at 16k and stuff like this is braking. thats crap. the thing that is strange is that the misfire only happens at full boost. not under normal driving. another tuner buddy of mine suggested it could be the head gasket not sealing well and causing other cylinders to misfire, since it wasnt designed to go up to 20psi. any input on this? also how can i tell which cylinder is which? i figure the one thats on the very left away from the battery should be #1 then maybe #3 then #2 then #4 (1,3,2,4)? say as in #1 and #2 will fire then #3 and #4? or am i over complicating it and they are simply in order (1,2,3,4), as in #1 and #3 will fire then #2 and #4? thanks for your input.

You're apr chipped right? Well I'm fairly certain that they designed their stuff to work with stock parts and not break anything so 20 psi should be ok, as for cyl. order it's probably just 1-4 and they fire 1,3,2,4. if you can find a pic of a stock cam shaft that could probably clear it up a bit more for you, because firing down a line 1-4 wouldn't make to much sense

yea the order is if ur facing the car 1,2,3,4.

i went to the dealer and paid for them myself. i didnt want to go through the hassle of dropping my car off. when i 1st brought it in, they told me i had a fuel pump issue. talked to the shop that chipped my car. he immediately thought coilpack. they wouldnt believe him, i limped my car to unitronic. checked it out and in 10mins confirmed it was the coilpak. fuel pump my rear!

how much u pay for ur coilpacks?

not at all. just pull out the old ones and put the new ones in. the fact that i dont have an engine cover makes it that much easier. just took an old shoos lace, wrapped it around the head of the coil, rock it back and forth as you pull on it and it comes out nice and easy. im almost full on gas so wont fill up for at least a week if i just drive to and from work.
