I have been experiencing a terrible wind noise coming from the door seal, it is intolerable and I just can't believe it is normal. I can hear it coming from the passenger side as well, but not nearly as bad. If I press against the area while driving, it will stop. It occurs at any speed north of 60mph. Has anyone else experienced this? I am going to take it in, because it is just that bad, but before I do I wanted to get a little feedback from those who may be experiencing the same issue.
Here is a picture to illustrate where I am talking about. I can take closer shots, this was just a photo I already had on my computer. ![]() Thanks. |

Cant Say That I Have .... I Have Yet To Drive One Of The Things And Doubt That I Will Since I Think That They Screwed Up Majorly The Second They Decided To Not Make Either A Mk6 R32 With A Manual Option Or Atleast An AWD 2.0T .... Not To Mention Actually Growing A Set And Make A R32T Even If It Costs More It Would Sell Its Ass Off

I stopped by Howard Cooper VW/Audi here in Ann Arbor, where I purchased the car, just a little while ago. I had to go there for something else, but mentioned the issue to my salesman. Promptly, he took me back to service where they offered to take a look at it next monday, spend the day with it, give me a loaner car. So hopefully it will be resolved. The tech. suggested it could be something as simple as a door adjustment, as bmt toronto said was the resolution to his problem.
I'll keep you guys posted once I take it in early next week for them to really check it out. Until then, I'll be cruising sub-60mph speeds to keep my sanity. |

I just bought my mk6 last week. I also had wind noise from the driver window but it was up front.
Two days ago I took it in and the tech said he had to adjust the window full up position. It was not going all the way up into the channel. An hour later and all is fixed, quiet, and they even washed my car. Great service considering I did not even purchase the car from them. All under warranty and no cost to me. |

I have a GTi 2010 and i have the same noise coming from the drivers side window. I went on a trip to NYC from Boston and as i was on the highway with no music heard the wind road noise coming from the drivers window left front side. I am taking my car @my dealership coming Monday to resolve it. I also have a ticking noise coming from my left side where my seat belt adjustor is or from that area. I am really anoid from all this bs since its a brand new car!!!
Lets see what the VW ppl can do for me..!!! |

Meant to give an update sooner, but here is what happened:
Door seal leak issue has been solved! I dropped the GTI off at the dealer this past Tuesday, left with a loaner Jetta, and less than four hours later I received a call that the problem had been corrected. Service tech acknowledged that there was a noticeable wind noise coming from both doors at speeds as low as 35-mph that became increasingly worse at higher speeds. The resolution: Door Adjustment. The doors were "brought in" slightly by adjusting the latches on the doors so they closes just ever-so tighter. I can now exceed 30-mph without the whispering wind, and can cruise the expressway at 80-mph and not want to blow my brains out. If you're experiencing this issue (seems to be occurring largely with the 3-doors) take your car in, its an easy and quick fix. I have my car serviced at Howard Cooper in Ann Arbor, MI, and had them handle the issue. I am totally satisfied with how promptly they took care of the problem. They even topped off my gas tank (3-gallons er so) as they had to drive it around. |

Good to hear. Hopefully they fixed all the mkv problems when they redid the car. They certainly ruined the whole look of the car with the mk6

I had that kind of the problem on my VW Jetta. This is because the rubber which is used to close ermeticaly the doors is damaged. You can change it it's just 5-7$ one piece

I have the same problem on my mkvi. Im glad it can be fixed, i never paid any attention to it till i read about it, I didnt really mind it but if it can be fixed then why not. Im coming from an Jeep wrangler that had no top or doors, after that I have quite a tolerance for wind noise. Everything was still whisper quiet but i guess it can be just a bit quieter.

Guess Ill be taking it in for a door adjustment. Also, noticed mine was leaking some water as well. Any of you have that same problem? |

Just registered to post this haha, I have the exact same issue on my brand new 2010 3 door. Was wondering what the hell that noise was, so I googled GTI wind noise and found this forum. Gonna take it in this week and say what Fladeboe VW has to say about this, I'll mention the door trick to them.

I took mine into the dealer after hearing the wind and they first said they didnt hear anything-two mechanics took it out- I then road with a mechanic to show him the noise- he noticed it but insisted it was normal. They then told me they could attempt to tighten the doors but it would cause the doors to not be "flush" with the body-this of course scared me and figured unless its leaking or can be heard over the radio, it was normal. Mine doesnt seem to be as loud as people have described below, and it is definitely not leaking considering its been in the snow, and I have washed it. |

I have the same noise on my MKV but it only occurs when I have the air on in the car with it set to refresh. If I set it to recirculate the noise goes away. I'm assuming it's just pulling in air from that gap and causing the whistle. It gets louder as I up the fan speed on the A/C. Gonna eventually take it to the dealer.
